Permanent Residents

Before this month got completely away from me, I wanted to drop in and introduce you to the new furry writing companions coming my way.

Coming to me on the 22nd are these two furry nutjobs, Henley and Lyla. Your guess is as good as mine as to which one is which in this photo. I have a feeling it’s going to be a minute before I’m able to tell the voids apart.

It’s been my long-held theory that cats are merely just reincarnated pop stars (really pretty, not that bright), so my boy cats have been named for them. My last lil guy was named Nigel after the bass player of Duran Duran. I’m sure y’all can figure out why this new baby boy is named Henley. (If not, hi, I’m Heather… I breathe 70s music and yeah, Don Henley is a muse.)

My girl cats, however, have a different naming convention. They get named for a female character in one of my books. Before I even thought of doing this writing thing for real, I had stories about musicians, which is where Salem came from. (The character was technically Harriet Salem – you see why she went by the latter.) And my lil Charlie-girl, short for Charlotte, as named after a character I was writing when I was writing my baseball fiction.

And now, I’ve got a Lyla, named after the FMC in book #9 and she may be a perfect blend of both traditions because Lyla was semi-taken from another musician.

Speaking of book #9 – they have officially taken over the story. Everything I had planned for them has taken a complete detour and I’m writing by the seat of my pants. Honestly? It’s my favorite part of writing – that discovery of where the story wants to take me.

So, in between my nephew visiting, my friend visiting, and my sister visiting between now and the end of the month, I wanted to pop in here and say hello!

Let’s see how the writing goes with 2 kittens doing zoomies…
